Pre-production Process
Monday, November 10th, 2008
As soon as our clients have handed us film or file for CTP, they will asked when we can make the delivery. However, the answer is not that simple. We can’t have a definite answer unless we have gone through a pre-production process with the client together. The responsibility of the client doesn’t end right after they have submitted the material. The following steps illustrate the pre-production steps.
- After we get the film or CTP file, we will start preparing a copy of blue print for client’s approval.
- Blue print looks like a dummy of the book. It is used to verify pagination and layout. It is NOT for double checking wordings, which should be finalized before submitting the material to us. From our experience, concentrate on editorial mistakes will miss other bigger mistakes.
- Make correction to the pages if there is any
- The client will verify the corrections. If there are more mistakes, we will need to go back to the previous step.
- After the blue print is confirmed by client, we can start the production process.
Only after the pre-production steps are completed, we can have a reasonable estimate on the delivery date. In conclusion, the client’s responsibility doesn’t just stop at the material submission. We have to go through the pre-production steps together to ensure proper layout and pagination of the final product. We will also notify the client if there is any foreseeable problem so that we can work together to complete the job in time with satisfactory quality.
